CORE DESIGN CHALLENGES
Facing challenges
1. Infrastructure Upgrade
The original electrical and mechanical configurations of commercial buildings are typically not designed for laboratory use. The design team had to reconstruct ventilation, exhaust, and E&M systems that meet safety and R&D requirements within the constraints of limited headroom and piping conditions to ensure the normal operation of the laboratory.

2. Environmental and System Security
The new premises are located at Tsim Sha Tsui Centre along the waterfront. Since the seaside humidity and sea breeze can affect the stability of precision ultrasound equipment and experimental data, it is necessary to concurrently address humidity control, equipment protection, and high-specification independent network security architecture.

The client wished for the new office to move away from the cold, clinical image of a traditional laboratory. Instead, aligning with their brand positioning centered on ultrasonic medical innovation, they wanted to incorporate a sense of 'Glow' renewal to create a modern working environment that balances confidential R&D, cross-team collaboration, and employee well-being.

To address the aforementioned challenges, BW provided a "one-stop solution" encompassing international standard design, renovation works, and technical consultancy,
successfully transforming a commercial space in Tsim Sha Tsui into a state-of-the-art medical and scientific research centre.

Project Deliverables
With BW's professional engineering and design intervention, the Tsim Sha Tsui Medical Research Centre has been successfully completed and officially opened. This spatial upgrade is not only a relocation of geographical position, but also a comprehensive leap in corporate strength and brand image:
Firstly, the completion of the new laboratory has greatly consolidated the foundation of R&D. Under a constant temperature and humidity and highly secure environment, the team is able to promote the optimization and testing of core technologies more efficiently. Secondly, the project has successfully demonstrated the feasibility of establishing high-specification biotechnology laboratories in Hong Kong's core business districts, providing a highly valuable template for the spatial layout of the innovation and technology industry.
At the corporate operations level, the client successfully obtained the ISO 13485:2016 Medical Devices Quality Management Systems certification, thanks to its outstanding technology and state-of-the-art facilities, and stood out in the Asia-Pacific Medical Technology Innovation Competition to win the grand prize. The brand-new 'Glow' office space not only enhances the cohesion and job satisfaction of the existing team, but also serves as a brilliant calling card for the client when attracting top global scientific research talent, and welcoming international pharmaceutical partners and investors.
