Challenge 1: Front-of-House Experience Design
The service desk inspires anticipation of travel
The travel agency front desk is "the first physical touchpoint of sales"—within ten seconds of a customer walking through the door, their trust in the brand and willingness to spend are already forming. The design logic of the destination visual wall is not to "show more destination pictures," but to make the customer feel visually as if they "have already departed." LED dynamic display screens (showing flight information, destination videos, or real-time weather) extend customer dwell time by over 60% compared to static printed posters—during the design stage, AV routing and display system update methods must be confirmed to avoid having to damage the renovation to update equipment for future seasonal content. The service desk height is designed for the ergonomic pairing of standing customers (750–800mm) and seated staff (worktop 720mm), while ensuring that the line of sight of customers seated for consultation is not blocked by the service desk, maintaining a friendly and private atmosphere for conversation.
Challenge 2: Operations Centre Acoustics
Call clarity and comfort for long-haul flights achieved at the same time
The acoustic design of a customer service and ticketing operations centre is fundamentally different from a typical office. Here, phone calls are happening simultaneously at every workstation. The biggest design challenge is not 'making the space quieter' but rather 'ensuring that calls at each workstation do not interfere with one another'. The solution requires three parallel layers: high acoustic desk screens (screen height ≥1,200 mm with sound-absorbing fabric NRC ≥0.7) to block adjacent sounds; ceiling acoustic panels (αw ≥0.8) to control the overall RT60 at ≤0.5s to prevent prolonged sound reverberation in the space; and a speech privacy system (sound masking with 60–65 dB of white noise background) to further reduce the Articulation Index (AI), minimising the interference of customer service agents' voices on adjacent workstations. Achieving NC ≤40 is the most fundamental acoustic design goal for the operations centre.
Challenge 3: Shift Work Lighting Design
Circadian rhythm protection for long working hours
The 24-hour operations centre has a high proportion of night shift staff. The fixed 4,000K high-illuminance lighting of traditional offices causes long-term circadian rhythm disruption to night shift employees (blue light suppressing melatonin secretion), accelerating fatigue accumulation and health problems. Proper shift lighting design involves segmented adjustments by time period: day shift (daytime) maintains a high-alertness mode of 4,000K 500 lux; evening periods drop to 3,000–3,500K; and night shifts use 3,000K 300–400 lux to reduce blue light exposure. The DALI dimming system automatically switches according to the time without manual operation—this is not just a health-conscious design, but also a management tool to reduce staff turnover rate.
